We brought our son to his very first peace rally. In fact, this was our family's first protest together since Ericka attended an HCR rally solo while I was teaching, and the only one she and I have been to as a couple was last Mother's Day--Sam was a mere fetus in both instances.
Looks like maybe 100-150 folks marched on Church Street, which seems about typical for our tiny metropolis. With most of my energies focused on DC, I've never actually been to a demo in Burlington--closest was a vigil in St Albans and a counter-recruitment action in Williston--but still I saw a lot of familiar faces there.
The march began at City Hall after a few hours of panel discussions.
About to start.
The Friends Committee on National Legislation has infiltrated us!
Buddhist banner in front of the consumerist meccas that help fuel our wars.
Sam was really overwhelmed by all the people making noise.
Coming up to Borders at the north end of Church Street.
Bernie Sanders' office is in the dark brick building on the left (natch). Just another place Sam has only visited in a fetal state (when Ericka was ostensibly on bedrest).
[insert usual note about revolutions and dancing]
On the way home.
Father and son show off their matching Gandhi Is My Homeboy t-shirts from Code Pink (though his isn't autographed by Mia Kirshner).
I hope that we're not doing one of these with Sam when he's as old as the war is today. Sadly, I think he (along with his potential future siblings) will have plenty of opportunities to learn all the traditional chants.
As an administrative aside, we're so scatter-brained these days that we never got around to making signs or any fliers for outreach. Really, we could use some help or this chapter of Code Pink is going to stay in a holding pattern for a while, so anybody who's interested in picking up some organizing responsibilities, pleasepleaseplease lets us know!

Sam's "on the way home" picture is beatific. What a precious kid, and a lovely expression on his sweet face.

Beautiful pictures. First thought that came to mind is, "That could never happen here." "Here" being western KY, home to an Army post that is a huge part of the local economy.
Was this protest related to the anniversary?
Also, tell Sam he needs to grow some hair, already.

*People are always telling you what to do, but what's right for them may not be right for you.
