Speaking Of Cannon Fodder

Exchange at yesterday's Pentagon briefing:

Question:  So you're talking about having a troop level of approximately maybe 145,000 compared to what we have now?

 

Lt. Gen. Lance L. Smith:  That's difficult to say.  We've got about 138,000 right now, I think, and I think, you know, something in excess of that.  Whether it would be 145,000 or 141,000 or what I really can't tell you until we get final decisions on what we will be allowed to do.

Ah, the sweet, sweet smell of escalation.  That worked so well last time...
