Can We Secede?

How my town of Fletcher voted:

President1
Kerry (D): 341; Bush (R): 248; Nader (I): 5

House
Sanders (I): 406; Parke (R): 144

Senate
Leahy (D): 393; McMullen (R): 163

Governor
Douglas (R): 376; Clavelle (D): 195

Lt. Governor
Dubie (R): 363; Rivers (D): 184

So I ended up agreeing with my fellow townmembers, including on our State Leg choices, and Vermont went exactly as I voted. Too bad much of the country ignored our shining example re: the Presidential ticket...

Your town is small enough to do the Dixville Notch / Hart's Location thing, getting everyone to the polls at midnight, announcing the totals, and then shutting down.

I voted in New Hampshire, and it was the second time I ever supported a Democrat for national office. (I tried to beat Santorum in PA in 2000. Yes, I'm an opportunistic nomadic voter.)

Anybody hiring up your way, NTodd? I'm a quick learner...

"Can we secede?"

I wish. You'd find me on your doorstep in a heartbeat.

All I can say right now is: I can't wait until room service gets here with my food, and more importantly, my drink. Forgive me as I wallow for a while--I'll get back into fighting spirit later.

Wait, you voted for Dubie??? No way!

Bill - yup. Rivers bugs me, Dubie's inoffensive and unless there's a compelling reason to vote PC or some other party, I tend to stick with Ds and Rs for the upper constitutional offices. I did vote Green this year, but didn't vote Libertarian for the first in a long time. Vermont's doing okay amidst the maelstrom, so I figured we should keep our current administration. It's not like Dubie passed a disastrous tax cut, started a few unwinnable wars, and wants to send me to Gitmo.

Hey, if you want to secede, check out this Second Vermont Republic conference this weekend: http://www.vermontrepublic.org/announcements/press-afterempire.html

Well, Vermont was its own nation for a while ... so you have precedent.
