A Hint Of Fall

Down the road the leaves begin to turn. Foliage season is just around the corner.

The goats don't seem to care: they've got their dirt mound.

» Autumn in New England from digamma.net - notes
Over at Dohiyi Mir, I was complaining that the much-celebrated foliage season in New England is only at its most spectacular for a period of about ten days, and that this period coincides with the Major League Baseball playoffs, where... [Read More]

Ah, lovely leaves that actually turn bright colors... I envy you!

Here in Houston, everything turns brown and falls off, all in a single instant (and most certainly not this instant). Well, maybe not a single instant... Fall may last a week or two. But the leaves really do turn almost exclusively brown, ignoring all other possibilities.

Hold on to that for a little while longer, will ya? I'm not ready for fall yet. Means I have to go back to school, er...work in a few weeks. I'm enjoying the Summer of NTodd way too much.

The dark secret of foliage season is that the really breathtaking part of it only lasts about ten days. And we have trouble paying attention to it because the Red Sox are in the playoffs. By the time the Sox have collapsed, the leaves have fallen, and we don't see the sun for five months. Or maybe that was just last year.

Come on up any time! FYI, the Summer of NTodd officially ends on 9/28, which is close to peak season. My travel schedule looks light, but it also looks to be pretty fluid, so book ahead!

And most years I've actually missed peak because I've been scheduled to teach in Dallas or some other un-Autumnish place.

NTodd, I'm sorely tempted to take you up on your offer. :) September looks to be my Month of 4-Day Weekends, if I can swing it, but there's also a day trip to the parents and another day trip at a convention and then the Jewish holidays so we'll see...
