Bobo's World

Okay, I haven't had any time to get things going full bore on the Atriopedia.  I'm going to be wicked busy over the next week or more, so lemme change tactics and make specific requests for definitions.

I'll start with Bobo's World.  Would somebody please do a write-up on the origin of the phrase, including (if possible) first instances of usage?  It doesn't have to be perfect, just something to get us started--I'll put it in the Wiki and then we can edit going forward.

Anyway, please post your ideas in comments.  And don't think that because somebody else already posted you shouldn't.  The more the merrier.

Thanks,
ntodd

Hum.

I think the question should be put to commenter Moe Szyslak at Eschaton, since I think he wrote the blog on such things.

Best to start with "who is Bobo anyhow?" which is David Brooks of the NYT.

Bobo's World is the dystopia which emerges in the semilunatic ramblings of David Brooks, the NYT's "token" conservative. In Bobo's World, women are submissive (and prefer being that way), President Bush is a strong leader, and liberals are urban elites who are unconsious of the real soul of America, which is a shopping mall somewhere outside Wilkes-Barre, PA.

The origin would be Brooks's book, "Bobos in Paradise."

I had an indirect role in it, the term derived from a link to me that Atrios had.

The term "Bobo's World", however, was Atrios's.

Here is the link.

Brooks uses "Bobo" to mean "Bourgeois Bohemian" which is something like a middle class pseudo-hippie. "Bobos in Paradise" is a truly idiodic book by a true idiot. A must read.
